issa (cheap) date

As a single gal who loves to explore Houston, I’ve compiled a short list of places to check out. Originally, I wanted to keep all of these hidden gems to myself (until I found my own BF to go with) but decided to share a few.

SIDE NOTE: I better not see any of y’all out here with ya crusty ass boyfriends who don’t treat you right!!!!!! Only go with boys you truly believe are the ONE.

Discovery Green / 1500 McKinney St, Houston, TX

DG is the perfect place to have a picnic date w your boo. Head over to Phoenicia (walking distance) and grab the goods. They have a variety of fresh meals + cheap ($) dessert. Once you’re at the park you can stare into each others eyes, or rent a Kayak for around $5. They also have a variety of free classes like yoga (check the schedule online) that you can join in on.

Oh / if you’re not an outdoors person, MKT Bar (connected to Phoenecia) has steak dinner for $12.99 on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 2-10 pm. The bar also has a wide assortment of board games (!!!!)

Hermann Park / 6001 Fannin St, Houston, TX 77030

IMO, Hermann Park is the prettiest park in Houston. On a good Houston weather day (ha!) this is the perfect place to be. Go for a walk. Catch a free performance at Miller Outdoor Theater (FOOTLOOSE is coming March 30th!) Ride a pedal boat (!) ($10 for a boat that fits 4 people) Visit the Japanese Garden. Go to the zoo if caged animals are your thing (free for UH students with a Student ID).

Make sure to pack a meal for 2 so you can eat at McGovern Centennial Gardens. AKA, the most beautiful garden (picnic spot) ever.

The James Turell Skyspace – Rice University

GO WATCH THE SUNRISE TOGETHER. Check the timings online and make sure to get there before the sun rises. Generally, no one is there for the sunrise so you have the skyspace all to yourself (scandy!) There are two levels of seating + colored lights that transport you into the Hotline Bling music video. Pack a picnic if you’re a fatass like I am, and can’t enjoy anything without a good meal. The Skyspace is free, but you have to pay for parking.

The Menil Collection – 533 Sul Ross St, Houston, TX 77006

If you find yourself dating a boy who is into art (or one that can be conned) make sure to check the Menil out. Admission is free. Always.

There are a number of additional spaces to check out within walking distance: The Cy Twombly Gallery, Dan Flavin Installation (good 4 insta pics), Menil Park (pack a picnic.. duh..), and my personal favorite… THE GIFT SHOP (they have a wide variety of button pins there for $2)

The Raven Tower is an similar alternative with a rad view of H-Town.
Buffalo Bayou – 103 Sabine St, Houston, TX 77007

This one is for the #healthhoes. Rent a bike for $5 and bike around the city! (or walk if you’re lame) Type in Lee and Joe Jamail Skate Park on google maps and park in that lot / right where bike checkout is. Bike to The Dunlavy for brunch. Eat an Acai bowl. Live out your celeb-blogger couple dreams.

Gallery Furniture

IKEA

Coffee Shop Date

Paper Co. is my personal favorite coffee shop in Houston. It’s fun to explore + there’s a Photo Booth.

Fellini Cafe is a close second. Grab a giant wine glass of Affogato.

Tout Suite is also a great place to chill #chill #VIBES #haha #hipster #date

Showboat Drive In Movie Theater – 22422 FM 2920 Hockley, Tx 77447

Pretend you’re a white couple from back in the day.
